​Aggressive Fashion Statements
In some of the most unexpected places we are confronted by a revival of the old tribal practices of body scarification, body piercing and body mutilation. Nose rings, eyebrow rings, belly rings, tongue studs, multiple earrings, nipple rings, tattoos and other disfigurements are more than an identifiable sub-culture – it is all part of an aggressive fashion statement which is challenging the Christian Church.

"Do not cut your bodies… or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord."
Leviticus 19:28

A Scandalous Silence
Unfortunately, most Church leaders have remained silent on this practice, even while some youth leaders and Bible College students are giving themselves over to body modification.

"Priests must not shave their heads… or cut their bodies. They must be holy to their God and must not profane the Name of their God... they are to be holy."
  Leviticus 21:5–6

Egalitarian Assumptions
Generally it starts off by assuming that if an earring is appropriate for a woman, then it is appropriate for men as well. Some women then reasoned that if men were going to wear an earring, then they would wear multiple earrings. As so many in the world are wearing nose rings, eyebrow rings, belly rings, tongue studs, etc. then why shouldn 't we?

"You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred towards God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God." 
James 4:4

Worldly Christians
As so many Christians have immersed themselves in pagan music, immoral videos and worldly amusements, it should not surprise us that so many of our youth are indistinguishable from their non-Christian friends. The mind-rotting, brain-numbing, soul-destroying trash that fills the ears, eyes and minds of our youth should be sufficient explanation for the backslidden, immoral and un-Christian behaviour, which now even includes professing Christians disfiguring their bodies with pagan piercings.

"There is no fear of God before their eyes."
  Romans 3:18

Back to the Bible
It is time for youth leaders and pastors to study what the Scripture teaches on this subject and then to boldly, and without compromise, preach on these passages and call those people who are defiling their bodies to Repent. We need to take God 's Word seriously.

"Let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God." 
2 Corinthians 7:1

"May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus." 
1 Thessalonians 5:23

The Apostle Who Became an Apostate
Do not be deceived by the superficial faith of false religion. There are false brethren. Even Jesus had a Judas amongst His chosen twelve Apostles. Judas was the apostle who became an apostate. Judas kissed the door to Heaven and still ended up in Hell. There are those who were very close to the Lord physically, yet far from Him spiritually. Like Judas, or like the blaspheming, reviling thief on the cross who used his dying breath to curse and mock Christ.
 
Do Not Be Destroyed by Self-Centered Pride
Do not be destroyed by the selfish focus of false religion. As we learn in Isaiah 14:12-14, the archangel, Lucifer, fell from Heaven and became satan through his pride and self-centeredness. Five times he declares: “I will...!” but Jesus taught us to pray for: “Thine will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…” “If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.” 1 Timothy 6:3-5
 
The Sin of Simony
The Name-It, Claim-It and Frame-It crowd, who proclaim the Health and Wealth prosperity gospel are actually guilty of the sin of simony, attempting to buy spiritual power, healing, or wealth, through money. The prosperity cult is a false gospel and needs the firm rebuke that Peter gave Simon: “Repent therefore of this your wickedness…”
 
Pride is the Religion of Hell
The root, source and foundation of false religion is pride. The fruit of false religion is bitterness and bondage. Even after the rebuke given to Simon the sorcerer by the Apostle Peter, his response lacks an appreciation of the grievousness of his wickedness. It is still “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.” It is still self-centred, self-focussed and self-obsessed. A true Christian is grieved by how his wickedness has offended a holy God and violated His Law.
 
Selfish, Superficial and Satanic
Beware of satanic forces, superficial faith and selfish focus.
 
Do you know God?
Are you Saved?
Are you right with God?
Has your life been transformed by Christ?
Have you repented of your sin and surrendered your life to Christ Jesus?
Are you trusting in Christ alone for Salvation?
Are you witnessing for Him?

 A Celebration of Evil
Halloween is a religious day, but it is not Christian. Tom Sanguinet, a former high priest in Wicca has said: "The modern holiday that we call Halloween has its origins in the full moon closest to November 1, the witches' new year. It is a time when the spirits (demons) are supposed to be at their peak power and revisiting planet earth… Halloween is purely and absolutely evil, and there is nothing we ever have, or will do, that would make it acceptable to the Lord Jesus."

 Day of Death
Halloween has strong roots in paganism and witchcraft. It began as the Druid festival of Samhain. The Celts considered November 1st the day of death, because, in the Northern hemisphere, this was the beginning of winter, the leaves were falling, it was getting darker earlier, and temperatures were dropping. They believed that their sun god was losing strength and Samhain, the lord of death, was overpowering the sun god. The druids also taught that on 31 October, on the eve of the feast, Samhain assembled the spirits of all who had died during the previous year to return to their former home to visit the living.

 Participating in Paganism
Instead of participating in paganism, walking with Wicca, being in harmony with Halloween, having our children celebrate cruelty, and dabbling in a day of death, we should focus our family and congregation on celebrating Reformation Day. Join us in Franschhoek, on Thursday, 31 October for the Reformation Celebration service at the Huguenot Monument at 12 noon.  Reformation Day vs Halloween
It was on 31 October 1517, that Dr. Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses on the door of the Slosskirche (castle church) in Wittenberg, Germany. His bold challenge against the unBiblical practices of the medieval Roman papacy inspired the Protestant Reformation. All Bible believing churches should celebrate the greatest revival of Faith and freedom ever. The Reformation was one the most important turning points in world history. The energies that were released by the rediscovery of the Bible in the common tongue led to the most extraordinary spiritual Revival in history. The Reformation freed the Christians of Northern Europe from the decadence of Renaissance paganism and led to the greatest freedoms and scientific discoveries in history.

 Every Bible believing Christian should celebrate the Reformation. No Christian should have part in celebrating the occultic Halloween.

 We are in a spiritual world war. Cruelty to animals, vandalism and murders occur with far greater frequency during Halloween. Every Halloween many thousands of animals, and even people, are sacrificed in satanic rituals worldwide, while millions of other people, including well-meaning Christians, participate in Halloween celebrations. Halloween is a prime recruiting time for witches and Satanists. Many people have testified that they were introduced to the occult at a Halloween party. Halloween is very religious, but it is not Christian.  "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21

 Choose Life
This 31 October, take a stand against Halloween by mobilising your family and congregation to celebrate the Reformation, and to engage in spiritual warfare, earnest prayer, praying the Psalms, and sharing the Gospel with our friends and neighbours, particularly those who may be unthinkingly participating in this occultic celebration of divination, necromancy, human sacrifice and cruelty to animals.

 "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole Armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole Armour of God, that you may be able to stand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the Breastplate of Righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace. Above all, taking the Shield of Faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints." Ephesians 6:10-18

The most devastating condemnation of hypocrisy is given by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 23:
 
Much Talk But Little Action
"Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: 'The scribes and the pharisees sit in Moses' seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 

Pride and Arrogance
"But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.' But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in Heaven. And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. 

God Resists the Proud But He Gives Grace to the Humble
"But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
 
Enemies of the Kingdom of God
"But woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
 
Predators and Pretenders
"Woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
 
Sons of Hell
"Woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
 
Double Standards
"Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the Temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the Temple, he is obliged to perform it.' Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the Temple that sanctifies the gold? And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged to perform it.' Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? Therefore he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it. He who swears by the Temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it. And he who swears by Heaven, swears by the Throne of God and by Him who sits on it.
 
Neglecting Justice, Mercy and Faith
"Woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!
 
Concerned with Externals – But Neglecting the Heart
"Woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.
 
False Impressions
"Woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
 
Murderous Hypocrites
"Woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous and say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' 'Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers' guilt. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?" Matthew 23:1-33
 
Under the Curse of God
In contrast to the 8 Beatitudes, our Lord lists 8 Woes to the hypocritical pharisees. These are Covenantal curses, God's Lawsuit against apostates. 

Marks of a Hypocrite
From Matthew 23 we can see the seven marks of a hypocrite:
 
1.Inconsistent
They say one thing and do another. Their speech and their actions are contrary to one another. They seem to know a lot, but they do not practice what they preach. Their words and their works do not line up. Their lips say one thing but their lives say another. They may tell others to obey the Law, but they themselves do not obey it. They advocate standards and experiences that they do not evidence. They are characterised by much talk but little action.
 
Is your life a contradiction of your words? Talk is easy but walk is hard. The first mark of a hypocrite is that he contradicts his words by his actions. Do your actions betray your words as hypocritical? If so, stand convicted of hypocrisy and bow your head in Repentance confessing your sin.
 
2.People Pleasers
The second characteristic of a hypocrite is that he seeks the approval and applause of people. Whenever he does something right it is in such a way that it may be seen. Virtue signalling. The pharisees in Jesus day would sound a trumpet before giving his alms and he would stand at the street corner to perform his prayers. To the hypocrites virtue done in the dark is almost a vice. He cannot detect any beauty in virtue unless there is an audience. The standard of the hypocrite is the opinion of others, his law is self-seeking and self-virtuous. If he is virtuous, it is in order to be praised. If something that is a vice today were to be considered a virtue tomorrow then he would abandon himself to it with enthusiasm. Applause is what the hypocrite seeks after. The hypocrite wonders what the point would be of giving to the poor, or praying to God in secret, where no eye can see and no tongue can sing his praise? They court and covet places of honour and respect.
 
Hypocrites do their good works, or virtue signalling for multiculturalism and LGBTQ tolerance, for approval and applause. Is that so with you? If so, be honest and, as you would convict another, convict yourself in Prayer and Repentance before God. 
 
3.Pride
Hypocrites love titles, honours and respect from men: "Archbishop", "Oscar Award winning", "Nobel Prize winner", "Pulitzer Prize winner" and "New York Times Best Selling Author". The hypocrites love being praised, honoured, seated in the best place and regarded as respectable and popular. Yet this has not been the way of Christians through the ages. The term 'Christian' was a mark of derision and an insult when the believers were first called Christians at Antioch. However they gladly took the name of reproach. The term 'Puritan' was used as an insult by drunkards to swear at believers who sought to maintain a Godly standard. The Reformed Christians gladly took on this term of reproach. Similarly, the term 'Methodist' was meant as a term of abuse and the Wesleyans adopted it as their title. By popular acclaim, the missionary Patrick was called a Saint. However, in his own writings he only described himself as a "sinner".
 
What are we to say about those who want to be referred to as "Apostle", "Prophet", or "Your Holiness"? Jesus said: No one is good except God alone. Our Lord commanded that we should call no man on earth Father. We have one Father in Heaven. What are we to say about those who want to be termed "Holy Father"? Our Lord warns against the temptation to accord human leaders the authority and prerogatives that belong to God alone. Making an idol of themselves. To honour ourselves in church where God alone should be honoured makes idolatry even more reprehensible.
 
Are you willing to be the despised follower of the Lord Jesus Christ? If you only want to follow the Lord to be honoured by men, then you are a hypocrite.
 
Our Lord Jesus said that the servant is not greater than the Master. If they hated Christ, they will hate you too. Our Lord suffered for us and left us an example that we should follow in His footsteps. Whoever wants to be great among you must be the servant of all.
 
4.Fault Finders
A hypocrite strains at a gnat and swallows a camel. The gnat is the smallest of unclean creatures in the Bible. The camel is the largest. In Aramaic the words sound similar. Hypocrites major on minors and neglect the weightier matter of the Law: justice and mercy and faith. One can see the hypocrisy in those very particular souls who look out for the little things, always searching out small point of differences, while neglecting the big issues such as the Great Commission and the Cultural Mandate. We must watch out when we find ourselves more concerned about trivialities than the Kingdom of God, the Word of God, the work of God and the worship of God.
 
The Judaizers of today have adopted much of the legalism and hypocrisy of the pharisees catalogued by our Lord in Matthew 23. They find fault with some trifling issue while neglecting the major duties and calls of God’s Word. Our Lord Jesus identifies justice, mercy and faith. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. The main thing is the fulfilment of the Cultural Mandate and the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are to know God and we are to make Him known. We are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. We have to love our neighbour as ourselves. Care for God's Creatures. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.
 
Do not neglect the small issues. For he who is faithful in small matters can be trusted in large. However, make sure that your primary focus and major time and energy is devoted to what is of the greatest importance, in the light of Eternity.
 
5.Hollow
Hypocrites neglect the inward and focus on the outward. They clean the outside of the cup and bowl while the inside is full of extortion and self-indulgence. Like whitewashed tombs they appear beautiful on the outside but inside are full of decay, corruption, death and all kinds of uncleanness. They appear outwardly righteous to men, but inside they are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. There are many beautiful bound books with lovely covers which have nothing inside them. There are many people who have a very religious looking exterior while there is nothing spiritual going on in their life. While the hypocrite gives minute attention to the externals, they are careless about the inward heart, soul and spirit.
 
They may take the bread and the wine during a communion service, but they are not careful to see whether they have truly partaken of the flesh and Blood of Christ. They may have been baptised with water, but they have not been careful to see that they are buried with Christ in baptism and raised to newness of life through Him. They may be satisfied with having been to a church service, but fail to have communion with Christ Himself.
 
The hypocrites are those who may be satisfied with an exterior Christianity made up of Christian bumper stickers, T-shirts and jewellery, but neglecting a personal devotion and daily discipleship walk with Christ. Like a tree with shallow roots or a rotten branch, the winds of adversity will cause the hypocrite to fail and fall.
 
Have you been born again? Have you passed from darkness to light? Have you been delivered from the bondage of satan into the Kingdom of God's own dear Son?
 
Do you live in daily contact with and dependence upon the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you hunger and thirst after a closer walk with Jesus?
 
If you cannot say this, whatever your outward life may seem, you may be self-deceived and deceiving others and the Lord's woes of the hypocrite may fall upon you.
 
Is this getting too personal? Then may God be praised. May the truth be the death of your delusions.
 
6.Counterfeit
Hypocrisy is mostly concerned with externals. Hypocrites are pretentious. All for show and nothing of substance. The religion of the hypocrite depends upon the time and the place. The hypocrite’s conscience is very elastic. He can be something of a chameleon, taking his complexion from the background. It is easy to be a Sunday Christian in church. What is your behaviour like the rest of the week? When you are around Christians it is easy to behave as a Christian. But how do you behave when you are around those who do not love and serve the Lord? If your character, conduct and conversation drastically change with your company, then may you not be a counterfeit Christian?
 
Of course, all Christians are fallible, but we are not to be false. Are you a true Christian every day of the week, no matter what company you are in?
 
7.Double Standards
Hypocrites are generally severe with others but very lenient on themselves. Hypocrites can make what they would easily recognise as a vice in others, look like a virtue in themselves. "You are a miser, but I am economical. You are stubborn, but I am determined. You are wasteful, but I am generous!"
 
The hypocrite can be very concerned about the speck in someone else's eye, but oblivious to the log in his own eye. Hypocrites make vices in others, into virtues in themselves and they can present themselves as virtuous. Hypocrites are always making excuses for themselves, while condemning others. The hypocrite is a judge - condemning, punishing and ready to lynch others while considering themselves exempt from the same standards, a law unto themselves. Their conscience is so seared that they can easily continue to wallow in the very sins that they condemn in others.
 
Hypocrites impose burdens on others that they are not willing to bear themselves.
 
John Bunyan in Pilgrim’s Progress describes how Christians have the very opposite attitude to the hypocrite. After Mercy, Christiana and the children were washed in the bath and sealed with the seal, as they came out of the water all fair and lovely, the one began to say to the other: "You are fairer than I!" and "You are more comely than I!" They could see their own blemishes, but could only praise the beauty of the others. In honour preferring one another. But the spirit of the hypocrite is the very reverse. They are generous with themselves, but severe with others. The condemnation of the Lord Jesus Christ against such hypocrites is most severe: "Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?" Matthew 22:33

Self-Conceit and Self-Deceit
The hypocrites built tombs to honour the prophets and adorned monuments of the righteous flattering themselves that they would never had murdered the prophets as their fathers did. In fact, the very pharisees to whom Jesus was speaking were the ones who conspired to betray Christ, falsely accuse Him, manufactured false testimony, bribed false witnesses, in order to have the Messiah murdered. Their self-conceit and self-deceit was total. The same Sun which melts the wax, hardens the clay. God's people responded to the ministry of Christ by being melted in their hearts, but the hypocrites were hardened in their hearts. "He who exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted." Matthew 23:12
 
Racist Dictator Condemns in Others What He Practices Himself
While the African Union condemns racism, it has consistently supported the most racist regime on the continent, Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF in Zimbabwe and praised him as a “liberating hero”, despite "president" Robert Mugabe still hanging onto power 37 years later, even after having been repeatedly rejected by the electorate. It turns out that those screaming against “racism!” the most, are the worst racists of all.
 
Humanists are Hypocrites
It is hard to avoid the conclusion that humanists are hypocrites. They claim to stand for tolerance, yet are thoroughly intolerant of Evangelical Christians.  Humanists champion diversity and pluralism and yet they work steadfastly to exclude Christian views from the public sphere. They claim to believe in no moral absolutes and yet they make their own humanist opinions the new moral absolutes. 
 
Intolerance
Any scientist who dares to produce evidence that does not fit in with their evolutionary theories is denounced as "unscientific".
 
Coercion
Doctors and nurses who do not want to pervert their healing profession into one that takes innocent life are to be bullied by legislation and regulations into participating in abortions.
 
Compulsion
Teachers who believe in the sanctity of marriage and are convinced that sexual activity before marriage is destructive are expected, against their own conscience, to teach their students situation ethics and perverse "alternative lifestyles".
 
Religious
Humanists claim to be non-religious, to be neutral; but in reality they are a new religion. Not even that new. In so many ways modern day secular humanism is little more than a revised paganism of the ancient cults which engaged in human sacrifice, child sacrifice, temple prostitution and pornographic objects of worship. 
 
Aggressive
It is this militant secular humanism which is aggressively rewriting history, subverting morals, undermining the central tenets of the Christian faith and seeking to hijack the hearts, minds and souls of our children.
 
Bigotry
That is why I say that humanists are hypocrites. They claim to be “non-religious” when humanism is plainly a religion. They claim to support “tolerance”, when they are the most bigoted and intolerant of all. They claim to be for “diversity” and “pluralism” when they want to exclude Christianity from the market place of ideas. They claim not to believe in any moral absolutes, whilst elevating their own standards, or the lack of them, to effectively be new moral absolutes which, should anyone question, they will open themselves up to discrimination, ridicule, lawsuits and worse.
 
The fact is that humanism is the most destructive religion of all time and the most intolerant.
 
Evolutionist Hypocrisy
Evolutionists who claim to be for freedom of speech regularly ban any discussion, or dissension and fire those scientists who question Darwinian evolutionism, or who ask questions, which seem to consider Intelligent Design.
 
ANC Hypocrisy
The African National Congress have also proven to be blatant hypocrites by supporting the most racist comments of Thabo Mbeki and Julius Malema and tolerating and rewarding some of the most corrupt kleptocrats in the country. They support and applaud racism in Zimbabwe even while giving lip service to "non-racism" and "democracy." They legalise abortion, but criminalise parental discipline. You can kill your baby, but you may not spank your child. Blasphemy and pornography must be tolerated as “freedom of expression,” but a flag can be a hate crime and your freedom of speech can be curtailed as “hate speech.”
 
The Worst Hypocrites in History
Indeed, arguably the worst hypocrites in human history have been the communists. Communists condemn oppression and uphold themselves as "liberators" and "champions of justice" and yet communist regimes have been the most oppressive in all of history. No other regimes have imprisoned as many people, executed as many victims, deliberately starved so many millions, erected such huge institutions of oppression, employed more secret police, imprisoning whole nations behind an iron curtain of barbed wire, mine fields, electric fencing and machine gun towers.
 
Worse Than What They Condemn
Just in the 20th century, over 160 million people were murdered by communist governments. From the Soviet Union throughout Eastern Europe, in Afghanistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola, Cuba, to North Korea and Red China, the historical record has proved that communists are cruel oppressors.
 
Aggressors
Although communists claim to be devoted to "world peace", they have consistently engaged in the most blatant acts of armed aggression. Just to take the Soviet Union as an example: the 1920 Red Army invasion of Poland, the 1921 invasion of Georgia in the Caucasian Mountains, the 1939 invasion of Finland, the 1940 invasion of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and the eastern half of Poland. The invasion and colonisation of all the countries of Eastern Europe in 1945. The invasion of Hungary in 1956. The invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. The invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. Plainly, the Soviet Union's condemnations of "aggression" and claims to be devoted to "world peace" were hypocritical. 
 
Communist Colonies
Although avowed anti-colonialists the Soviet Union was one of the greatest colonial powers on earth. Russians made up less than half of the Soviet Union's total population while there were 63 major national groups and over 127 languages in the vast Soviet empire, which included nations such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Large sections of Poland, East Prussia, Finland and Romania were also annexed to the Soviet Union.
 
Imperialists
Although claiming to be anti-imperialists, the Soviet Union had the most extensive empire in the world with satellite states like Mongolia, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, East Germany and Afghanistan all firmly under Soviet Military occupation and control. Soviet troops also treated Vietnam, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola and Nicaragua as vassal states.
 
Militarists
Although the Soviet Union consistently condemned militarism they maintained the highest percentage of military spending in the world. More than half of the total Gross National Product of the Soviet Union was devoted to building up its bloated military and security establishment. Tens-of-thousands of Soviet and Cuban troops were stationed in 14 African states where they were heavily involved in wars of aggression against local resistance movements and propping up unelected Marxist dictatorships.
 
Persecutors
Although the communists continually spoke of "liberation" and "freedom" they proved themselves to be the greatest enemies of freedom and the worst persecutors of the Christian Church. For over 70 years the communist party attempted to eradicate Christianity from Russia. Brainwashing, propaganda, infiltration of the church, imprisonment, torture, concentration camps and executions failed to destroy people's Faith in God and hunger for the Bible. Yet communism continued to export, not only its ideology of atheism, materialism and economic determinism, but its violent revolutionary methods and its hatred of God, the Bible and the Christian Church. Wherever communism has gone, the Church has been persecuted, the economy eroded, brutal oppression has been enforced, hunger has resulted and famine followed, millions were imprisoned in concentration camps and many hundreds more were executed, while hundreds-of-thousands of refugees fled the country.
 
Actions are Eloquent
The actions of communists speak clearly - communism kills, oppresses, exploits and persecutes. What then is one to think of those who walk around with Che Guevare T-shirts and Soviet name brand clothing, with yellow or red stars and hammer and sickle insignia on their T-shirts while they might talk about "freedom" and "democracy"? Communism certainly presents the most blatant example of hypocrisy.

Bizarre Hypocrisy
Probably the most bizarre example of hypocrisy is provided by the African Union. While continually talking about "Democracy and Human Rights", the vast majority of government leaders represented at the Organisation of African Unity are dictators. The appointment of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema (the dictator of Equatorial Guinea) as the Chairman of the African Union was particularly bizarre. Obiang Nguema came to power in 1979 in a coup in which he overthrew and killed his uncle. In his 35th year of oppressing and exploiting the longsuffering people of Equatorial Guinea, Nguema gave speeches on "democracy and human rights" while insisting that these values must be "adapted to African culture"! 
 
Freedom for Mass Murder
Brutal Muslin dictator Idi Amin was the Chairman of the Organisation of African Unity. Amin rambled about "freedom" while he was presiding over the Ugandan holocaust in which hundreds-of-thousands of Christians were brutally slaughtered.
 
Living a Lie
Hypocrisy involves the deception of others. Hypocrisy is living a lie. Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities or standards that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy is far more than simply failing to practice all those virtues that one promotes. For example, an alcoholic may sincerely advocate temperance without any hypocrisy, as long as that alcoholic makes no pretence of constant sobriety. Everyone should seek to attain to the highest Biblical standards, without pretending that they have already achieved perfection.
 
Counterfeit
The word hypocrisy comes from the Greek hypokrisis which refers to play-acting and involves the concept of jealousy, cowardice, dissembling and deceit. It involves the condemning in others what one tolerates in oneself. Hypocrisy is the attempt to present a counterfeit "reality". Hypocrisy has been called: "the tribute that vice pays to virtue."
 
Dr. Zhivago
In Boris Pasternak's Dr. Zhivago, Yurii says: 'Your health is bound to be affected if, day after day, you say the opposite of what you feel. If you grovel before what you dislike …our nervous system is not just fiction, it is part of our physical body and it cannot be forever violated with impunity.'
 
God Sees Everything
After warning of the leaven of the pharisees which is hypocrisy, the Lord Jesus reminded us that: "There is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on housetops." The Lord reminds us that God knows everything and He sees everything. The Day of Judgment will come when every secret will be revealed and even the hidden motives of the heart will be examined. In the light of the coming Day of Judgment we must reject the counterfeit, repent of hypocrisy and serve God in sincerity.
 
Exposing Hypocrisy
In the New Testament a hypocrite is one who claims to have a relationship with God and to love righteousness, but is self-seeking and self-deceived.
 
Outward Pretence – All for Show – Nothing of Substance
"Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in Heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." Matthew 6:1-6
 
Pretentious Boasters
"Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." Matthew 6:16-18
 
Judgemental Nit Pickers and Legalists
"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or, how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Matthew 7:1-5
 
Fear God Alone
"And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you whom you should fear: fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!" Luke 12:4-5
 
Live in the Light of Eternity
The fear of God will free us from the tyrannical fear of man. Reject peer pressure and the seducing influence of public opinion and popularity. It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the Judgment. The Day will come when you will stand before Almighty God and you will have to give an account for everything you have ever said and done. If you were to die today and God was to Judge you in accordance with His Law, would you be innocent or guilty? Are you ready to face God?
 
"Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake His way and the unrighteous man His thoughts. Let him return to the Lord and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." Isaiah 55:6-7
 
People pleasers make traitors. Let your yes be Yes! Let your no be No! Say what you mean. Mean what you say. Be a man, or woman, of your word, a person of integrity. Dependable. Sincere. Humble. Do not pretend to be more than you are, nor to be better than you are. Serve the Lord with fear. Do not be concerned with what others say of you. Reject peer pressure. Fear God alone!

Hijacked by Humanism
What has happened? How has Humanism hijacked our culture? How did communists gain control of our government? How did it come to the point where church synods are even debating what constitutes marriage and whether satan or hell exists?
 
Infiltration and Infection
Plainly, Marxists have been infiltrating the five culture-shaping institutions of society. Our education institutions have been subverted by evolutionism, situation ethics, sex education and values clarification. The entertainment industry has been so subverted as to glamourise evil, popularise profanity and celebrate ugliness. In all too many sections of the news media, reality is being rearranged by a selective focus and rather than news, we are receiving humanist views and propaganda. Many religious institutions have been liberalised, ecumenised and syncretised in order to harmonise with New Age secular humanism and a revived paganism.

Life is Greater Than Death
Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life. He has conquered death, hell and the grave. He is risen, Ascended and coming again to Judge the living and the dead.
 
Truth is More Powerful than Lies and Deception
You shall know the truth and the Truth shall set you free. Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. The Bible is the Word of God. It is the power of God for Salvation of all who believe. It is like a hammer that breaks the rocks in pieces. It is sharper than any double-edged sword.
 
“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, My beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:57-58

​“And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, ‘Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?’” Luke 22:47-48
 
Although it has been common for Hollywood productions, like Jesus of Nazareth, to deal very sympathetically with Judas, the Bible is quite clear that Judas was greedy (Matthew 26:14-15); treacherous (Luke 22:47-48); dishonest and hypocritical (John 12:5-6).
 
The Traitor
The Bible is very clear that Judas Iscariot betrayed Christ (Matthew 10:4). Judas asked the chief priests: “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” Matthew 26:15.
The Bible records that the chief priests were delighted at Judas’ treachery (Mark 14:10).
Far from Judas being a well-meaning victim of circumstances, the Bible is quite clear that he was a malicious traitor. John’s Gospel plainly says: “Then satan entered into Judas” John 13:27.

​The Apostate
The Bible informs us that the walls of the New Jerusalem will have twelve foundation stones and on them will be written the names of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb (Revelation 21:14). Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alpheus Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot… but the name of one of the original twelve Apostles will be missing! That of Judas Iscariot, who betrayed the Lord. The Apostle who became an apostate.

The Failure
Judas Iscariot is the greatest failure in history. Called to be an Apostle, to be one of the founders of the Church of Jesus Christ on earth, he was presented with the greatest opportunities and highest privileges. Yet Judas failed. Jesus described him as: “The son of perdition …” For up to three years, Judas had the privilege of fellowshipping with the Lord Jesus Christ, listening daily to His instructions, hearing His prayers, seeing Him heal the sick, raising the dead, casting out demons, multiplying food, walking on the water and calming the storm with a Word. Judas went out with the other Apostles to preach and to heal in His Name. Yet, after letting the Lord wash his feet at the Last Supper, Judas went out and betrayed Him for 30 pieces of silver – the price of a slave. No wonder the Lord solemnly declared that it would have been better if he had never been born. Although the light shone all around Judas, there was darkness in his soul.

The Thief
John’s Gospel records a significant event at Bethany: “Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, ‘Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?’ This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. But Jesus said, ‘Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.’” John 12:1-8​

Deception
The Lord knew who would betray Him, but none of the other eleven disciples knew. When, at the Passover meal, the Lord declared that one of them would betray Him, nobody said: “Is it Judas?” They asked: “Lord, is it I?” Judas had totally, utterly and absolutely deceived every one of the eleven disciples. Even at that late stage, they did not realise who would be the traitor. Judas had gone with them on their evangelistic tours, he had preached the Saviour’s message and he had been amongst them when they had rejoiced that even the devils were subject to them. Judas provides a painful illustration of the truth, that the church office does not guarantee one eternal salvation.
 
From the Pulpit to Perdition
Many fall from the pulpit into perdition. As Dr. Martin Luther warned: God will pave the streets of hell with the skulls of bishops and cardinals – false ministers.
 
Do Not be Deceived
On my first visit to Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as I was admiring the magnificent building, Dr. James Kennedy admonished me: “Peter, don’t be deceived. Nothing is quite as it appears. I wish I could say that all the members of this church were saved, but I cannot. Nor can I confidently assert that all of my staff are saved. I cannot even be sure that all of my elders and pastors are saved. Why, just recently, our music minister came to Salvation in Christ! Now you must know that a Presbyterian music minister does not begin his career in Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. This is the summit of his career. I do not want to tell you how many other churches he had been a minister of music in, before coming here and coming to Christ.” I have never been able to forget that sharp warning from Dr. James Kennedy.
 
Judas’s in the Church
Indeed, time and again I have been forcibly reminded that there are many like Judas in the church today. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your Name, cast out demons in Your Name and done many wonders in Your Name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Matthew 7: 21-23

Has Your Life Been Transformed?
Salvation is real. It is radical. It is life-changing and life-transforming. When Jesus comes into a life, old things pass away and all things become new. With the new birth come new desires, new priorities, new purposes, new perspectives, new power, new peace, new principles, new purity, new productivity and new promises in Christ Jesus our Provider and Protector.
 
A False Brother
Judas walked with Jesus and yet his heart was far from Him.
He knew the teachings of the Saviour, but he did not apply them in his life.
He was close to the Light of the World and yet his soul was in darkness.
He kissed the Door of Heaven and yet he is condemned to an eternity in the torments of hell.
 
True Repentance
Judas also demonstrates the difference between repentance and remorse. Thomas doubted the Resurrection of Jesus, but when confronted with the risen Christ, he fell to his knees and confessed: “My Lord and my God!” Thomas faithfully served the Lord, establishing churches as far as India, where he died as a martyr for Christ.
 
The Difference Between Repentance and Remorse
On the same night that Judas betrayed Christ, the Apostle Peter denied that he even knew Him. Yet, after the cock crowed the third time, Peter wholeheartedly repented and went on to serve the Lord faithfully, many years later dying, in Rome, as a martyr for Christ. Repentance leads to forgiveness, freedom, peace and joy. However, remorse falls far short of Biblical repentance.

The Traitor’s End
Judas declared: “I have betrayed innocent blood!” But there was no lifesaving repentance. Judas went from the Temple to the field that he had long coveted to own and which he had covenanted to buy. He went to the face of the cliff and standing back tied a rope around the base of the tree. The other end of the rope he tied around his neck and then with one mad rush he ran forward and jumped over the precipice, dangled in the air and hung himself. Then the rope broke and his body crashed against the rocks where the Scripture says “all his bowels gushed out.” The salesman who sold his soul ended his life in sorrow.
 
Eternal Punishment
But that was not the end of Judas; it was only the end of his life on earth. It was the opening of the dark door into his doomed eternity. Yet, just a few hours before, he had kissed the very Door of Heaven.
 
There is a Way to Hell from the Very Door to Heaven
Pilgrim’s Progress ends with a story of a man who, without going through the narrow gate, without bowing before the Cross of Calvary, came to the gates of the Celestial City and was thrown, from there, into hell. John Bunyan notes that he learned that there is a way to hell, even from the very door of Heaven. This was certainly true for Judas.
You know the Gospel. Perhaps you have served in the church for years. But the question is:
Are you going to the same hell to which Judas Iscariot has been condemned?
Have you come to the Cross?
Have you wholeheartedly repented of all of your sins?
Are you taking up your cross, denying yourself and following Jesus?
People are lost, Jesus is the Way. People are deceived, Jesus is the Truth. People are dead, Jesus is the Life. Are you walking in His Way? Do You Love the Truth of His Word?
Are you living for Christ?
Boycott hell - Repent!

There is probably no more detested vice than that of hypocrisy. Yet it is pervasive.

New World Order
The first attempt to establish a New World Order was by the people who came to the land of Shinar (present day Iraq) and built the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:2-4). Others have tried since. Revelation 13 describes a beast with many heads and horns. The dragon gave the beast power, a throne and great authority. The beast mouthed blasphemies against God, blaspheming His Name, His Tabernacle, and those who dwell in Heaven. The beast made war with the saints and gained authority over "every tribe, tongue and nation."

 "All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."
Revelation 13:8

Muhammad's Rule
Muhammad, the founder of Islam attempted to impose his religious and political system on all. Men were not permitted to trade in the market place until they had bowed to Mecca. Many would leave some dust on their forehead to indicate that they had performed their Muslim duty. The Hadith records an incident where Muhammad challenged an old man whether he had bowed in prayer that day. The man bent down picked up some dust and rubbed it on his forehead, by way of a joke, mimicking the practise of so many others in Arabia at that time. Yet the Hadith records that Muhammad did not appreciate his sense of humour and ordered this man to be executed.

Revolution
During the French Revolution there was an attempt to impose a blasphemous secular humanist religion on all. The Soviet Union also attempted to eradicate all expressions of Christianity. Over 48,000 churches were confiscated, demolished, or destroyed, under the dictatorship of Lenin and Stalin. Tens-of-millions of Christians were slaughtered in the territories controlled by the Soviet Union to consolidate political control and enforce religious conformity to the will of the state.

Satanic Strategy
All of these are examples of how satan works. From Babel to Babylon, from Rome to the French Revolution and from the Soviet Union to Red China, those who seek to impose a One World government and a One World religion, also seek to control the economy and they pour out blasphemies against God and His people, persecuting those who refuse to bow to their political and religious will. They make war on the saints and attempt to stamp their mark on all that they have power over.
