Encouragement and Inspiration for Youth By Dr. Peter Hammond "Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come " Ecclesiastes 12:1 The Bible presents several inspiring young individuals whom God used to accomplish great things. Age is not a barrier to Divine calling & Service.
David: is described as a man After God’s own heart. You can see why when you read Psalms. David authored most of the Psalms, David was a shepherd boy when he was anointed by Samuel to be the future King of Israel. While still a teenager, David famously defeated Goliath, dramatically demonstrating his faith and courage (1 Samuel 17). David's testimony illustrates how God can empower youth to achieve great things through trust and obedience. Esther: A young Judean exile In a foreign land, Esther became Queen of Persia, Esther risked her life to save her people from annihilation. Her bravery in confronting King Xerxes to reveal her identity and plead for her people's safety demonstrates the impact a young person can have when they act with faith and courage (Book of Esther). “Who knows whether you have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4 :14 Samuel: Called by God as a young boy, Samuel served as a prophet and judge of Israel. His willingness to listen to God's voice and respond faithfully set the stage for significant leadership in Israel's history (1 Samuel 1-3). Speak Lord for your servant listens. Josiah: Becoming king of Judah at just eight years old, Josiah initiated major Reforms, publicly reading the Law of God and leading his people in national repentance, turning the nation back to God. His Testimony emphasizes that even the youngest can lead and inspire change (2 Kings 22-23). Jeremiah: God called Jeremiah to be a Prophet while he was still young. Jeremiah 1:7-8: "But the Lord said to me: 'Do not say, "I am a youth," For you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you," says the Lord." Despite his initial hesitations about his age, God assured him that he would be equipped for the task (Jeremiah 1:4-10). The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you. Daniel: Taken captive as a teenager, Daniel remained faithful to God Despite being an exile in a foreign land. His wisdom and integrity, his refusal to compromise his convictions and his ability to interpret Visions and dreams led to significant positive influence in Babylon (Daniel 1). Miriam: As the sister of Moses, Miriam played a crucial role in his early life and later became a prophetess, leading the Israelites in worship after their Deliverance from Egypt (Exodus 15:20-21). Imagine a world where young people exhibit such integrity, courage, and faith — just like these depicted in the Bible. There are numerous examples of principled youth in the Bible who demonstrated exceptional character and leadership, showing that age is not a barrier to making a difference. These narratives serve as powerful reminders for today’s youth to Rise above peer pressure, bullying, societal pressures and embrace their potential: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. For God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Not through might nor by power but by My Spirit says the Lord. Greater is He who is in you than him who is in the world. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. These biblical examples should inspire today’s young people to act with conviction and purpose. Do Not Waste Your Youth These examples from the Bible serve as powerful reminders that youth can be a time of significant impact and service to God. Each of these individuals demonstrated faith, courage, and leadership, proving that God can use you, regardless of your age, to fulfil His purposes. Their livies continue to inspire young people today to embrace your potential and trust in God's calling. "How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to Your Word." Proverbs 3:5-6 "Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
