CONSTITUTION OF LIVINGSTONE FELLOWSHIP
PURPOSE:
For the glory of God Livingstone Fellowship exists to fulfil the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ and to obey the Cultural Mandate, applying the Lordship of Christ to all areas of life.
PRINCIPLES:
Livingstone Fellowship is committed to the principles of the Protestant Reformation, including:
Sola Scriptura – Scripture alone is our ultimate authority.
Sola Gratia – Salvation is by the grace of God alone.
Sola Fide – Justification is received by faith alone.
Solus Christus – Christ alone is the Head of the Church and the only Mediator through whose work we are Redeemed.
Soli Deo Gloria – To God alone belongs all the glory.
Livingstone Fellowship is an Evangelical, Protestant, Theonomic, post-millennial Missionary and Evangelistic Christian fellowship. Livingstone Fellowship seeks to be educational, supporting Christian schools and home schooling and confessional, holding to The London Confession of Faith of 1689, Westminster Larger Catechism and The 39 Articles. Livingstone Fellowship holds to the doctrines of historic Christian orthodoxy, including The Apostle’s Creed, The Nicean Creed and The Athanasian Creed.
Holding to the inerrancy of Scripture and the sovereignty of God, Livingstone Fellowship is to adhere to Psalm reading, Hymn singing and Biblical exposition.
Livingstone Fellowship is Pro-Life, Pro-Family and concerned for the persecuted Church. We pray Imprecatory Prayers and encourage all of our members to be involved in Evangelism, supporting missions and the persecuted church.
HISTORY:
After numerous requests to establish a congregation which would take God’s Law seriously, see all nations in God’s purpose, support Christian schooling and home education, support ministries to the persecuted Church, restore Hymns to Sunday worship, give due emphasis to the Psalms and promote the Puritan vision of victory, Rev. Bill Bathman and Dr. Peter Hammond approached Rev. Erlo Stegen at KwaSizabantu Mission in December 2005, for his counsel. Rev. Stegen encouraged Dr. Hammond to go ahead and to establish such a congregation at our Mission House in Cape Town. This was done in January 2006.
AFFILIATIONS:
Livingstone Fellowship is a member of the Christian Action Network and is affiliated to KwaSizabantu Mission, to the Coalition on Revival and to the World Reformed Fellowship.
MINISTRIES:
The Sunday morning services of Livingstone Fellowship give emphasis to prayer and the Word, Hymns and worship. The Sunday worship service is at 11am and is for all ages. The mid-week service of Livingstone Fellowship is the Reformation Society meeting every Thursday at 7:30pm. In addition, Livingstone Fellowship observes Sanctity Life Sunday, the National Day of Repentance March for Life, Ascension Day, Life Chains, Reformation Day celebrations, the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, Remembrance Sunday and we participate in Biblical Worldview Seminars and Great Commission Camps andCourses.
The ministries of Livingstone Fellowship are extended through its website: www.livingstonefellowship.co.za and Audio-Visual Ministry with audio CDs of sermons, audio and data CDs of Reformation Society lectures, MP3s of both sermons and Reformation lectures, the www.ReformationSA.org website, through the William Carey Bible Institute and SermonAudio.com. Several sermon series first delivered at Livingstone Fellowship have been published as books, including: “The Ten Commandments – God's Perfect Law of Liberty”, “Practical Discipleship” and the “Old Testament Survey.”
DISTINCTIVES:
Livingstone Fellowship seeks to balance Reformation doctrine and Puritan devotion, head and heart, to see Biblical Truths on fire, with practical application. High priority is given to teaching, through Sunday sermons, Reformation lectures, audio CDs and books. The Library, audio-visual ministry and literature tables, form a vital part of our educational and Evangelistic ministry. Priority is given to the Psalms, Hymns and Imprecatory Prayers.
Livingstone Fellowship is dedicated to Reformation, missions, education and the persecuted Church. Members must do a thorough job of Repentance and Restitution. We need to get right with God through our personal Devotions, through family Devotions and daily discipline.
Recognising that the family is the basic building block of society and that the battle for the family is in the very frontline of the World War of Worldviews, we need to protect and disciple our families. All members are encouraged to complete the Way of the Master and Evangelism Explosion courses and be involved in literature distribution and personal Evangelism.
BASIS of FAITH
We believe in the Bible as the inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of God. We accept the Bible as the supreme and final authority for faith and conduct. Matt. 5:18, John 10:35, 2 Tim. 3:16, Heb. 1:1, 1 Pet. 1:25, 2 Pet. 1:20-21, Jude 3.
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Gen. 1:1, Mat. 28:18-20, John 1:1-3.
We believe in the absolute Deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, the authenticity of His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection and His Ascension to the right hand of the Father in Heaven. We believe in the personal and bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:6, Acts 2:22-24, Acts 4:12, 1 Cor. 15:3-6, Rev. 19:11-16.
We believe in the personality and Deity of the Holy Spirit. We believe He gives life, He sanctifies and He empowers and comforts all believers. Matt. 28:18-20, John 16:5-15, 2 Cor. 13:14.
We believe that man’s rebellion against God resulted in the Fall and the spread of sin to every human being. All men are guilty of transgressing God’s Holy Laws and are incapable of saving themselves. We believe that man is saved through repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ. Justification is by the grace of God alone. Rom. 5:12, 18-19; 1 Tim. 2:5-6; Eph. 2:1-10.
We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, composed of all true believers. The present work of the Church is – the worship of God, the perfecting of the saints and the Mission of "making disciples of all nations …teaching them to obey everything" that the Lord has commanded.” Matt. 16:18; 28:19; Col. 1:18; 1 Pet. 2:9.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of both, the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. John 5:28-29, Heb. 9:27, Rev. 20:11-15.
For the glory of God Livingstone Fellowship exists to fulfil the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ and to obey the Cultural Mandate, applying the Lordship of Christ to all areas of life.
